For the past month I’ve been reading PeopleWare, and I have to say it’s one of the most honest and relevant books on management and the work environment I have ever read.
If you are a manager, are aiming for management, or even if you’re not but want to make a difference in your work-place, I beg you to pick up a copy and see what you think.
Not everything will be relevant to you, and some of the things it recommends will be totally impractical for your situation, but as the book recommends, start small, change things little by little and it will make a big difference in the end.
I agree. I borrowed the book off a work colleague and am tempted to buy a copy myself to refer to from time to time even though it is quite a small book.
I have to admit I expected it to be bigger when I first bought it, but to be honest, any bigger and I don’t think it would be as accessible.
Well on the strength of what you said I looked up details about this book… and seeing other reviews I ordered the book. I found it a bit cheaper than amazon here: http://www.abebooks.co.uk/servlet/SearchResults?isbn=0932633439&n=100121501&AID=5435709&PID=1650064
Not sure abebooks before, but researching them they seem to have a good reputation. Hope the book arrives, always nervous when using a online store for the first time!
I’m currently reading “Practices of an Agile Developer” – not far enough in to it to review it or recommend it… but I like it so far. Nice easy to read style.
